Dermot Butler : Chairman, SwissRepCo

Mr Butler who has close to 50 years experience in the financial services industry is Chairman of SwissRepCo, an authorised Swiss representative for funds wishing to sell their shares in Switzerland to qualified investors. He was, until January 2014, the Chairman of the Custom House Group of companies, the specialist alternative investment and hedge fund administrator, which he established in Dublin in 1989. He is now a consultant to Custom House. Prior to that Mr Butler had worked variously as both a stockbroker and stock jobber (market maker) on the London Stock Exchange, and subsequently, as a commodity broker and as a principal dealer in commodity options on the London Metal and London Commodity Exchanges, before moving into the alternative investment and hedge fund management and administration business. Mr Butler previously held the position of Chairman of McDonnell & Co. (London) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bermudian based fund management group, McDonnell & Co. Ltd., of which he was a founder member.

Mr Butler has testified before the CFTC on the Regulation of Commodity Options and has given evidence before the US Tax Court and the Texas Security Commission on “London Options”. He has also appeared as an expert witness on fund administration on several occasions.

Mr Butler is a regular speaker at international conferences and has authored numerous articles on the management, administration and regulation of hedge funds. Mr Butler is a director of a number of companies involved in international investment and financial services, including several investment funds domiciled in Ireland, Malta, Cayman and BVI including, inter alia, funds promoted or managed by Bridgewater, Dimensional, Findlay Park, JP Morgan, Payden & Rygel, Marriott (part of Old Mutual) and Winton.

Mr Butler was for six years Deputy Chairman of AIMA until September 2008 and he has recently been appointed as Chairman of the newly formed Fund Governance Association.
